Happy Wednesday bookworms! Today I’m reviewing The Davenports by Krystal Marquis. Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review! content warnings
Racism Set in 1910 Chicago, The Davenports follows Olivia and Helen, the daughters of the Davenport family, their maid Amy-Rose, and their friend Ruby. Each girl has their own dreams and passions and together they must find courage to steer their own path in life, and possibly find romance along the way.
One of my favourite aspects of this book was the setting! 1910 is such an interesting time period to explore, and it captured my attention right away. I had a great time reading about each of the girls. The writing style was easy to follow, and the different perspectives captured their individual personalities. I also liked the wide range of side characters that were featured. They all contributed to the story and developed in their own way as the book progressed. It was interesting to read the author's note at the end to learn more about Krystal's inspiration for The Davenports. We also got a glimpse of her research process, which I loved! I gave this book 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's a wrap on my review of The Davenports by Krystal Marquis. I hope you enjoyed it! If you switched places with the main character in your current read for a day, what would you be doing? Let me know in the comments below!

Happy Sunday bookworms! Today I'm reviewing I Will Find You Again by Sarah Lyu. Thank you to Simon & Schuster for sending me an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book is currently available in stores. You can also check out my interview with Sarah here! content Warnings
Suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety, addiction, suicide, panic attacks, grief, death Chase Ohara is a self proclaimed overachiever, even her classmates see her as a future CEO in the making. And Lia, her best friend and girlfriend, is her exact opposite, an impulsive free spirit. The two match together perfectly, but when Lia disappears, Chase’s life is reduced to grief, anger, and confusion. In an attempt to understand what happened, Chase looks deeper into Lia’s life and uncovers some shocking secrets that will change everything about the way she sees Lia, and herself.
I want to start off by saying that this book deals with many difficult topics so be sure to check out the content warnings to see if this book is right for you. I Will Find You Again explores a lot of hard hitting concepts including grief, depression, and suicide. Sarah approaches each of these subjects with care and sensitivity. I think that those who love emotional stories will enjoy this book, however the topics it featured became too much for me at times. I enjoyed the writing style and thought it kept the story moving and allowed me to connect more with our main character Chase. The past perspectives were also well done and explained in an easy to understand way how Chase and Lia got together and the events leading up to Lia's disappearance. Chase goes through many difficult challenges throughout the story, and underwent a lot of development as a character. The idea of the "academic pressure cooker" was also highlighted, and I think many students today can relate to the stress Chase and her classmates were under to achieve the best possible marks. I Will Find You Again is an emotional story with rich character development. I gave this book 3/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's all for my review of I Will Find You Again by Sarah Lyu! I hope you enjoyed it!
