Hi bookworms! Welcome to my review of Sinner's Isle by Angela Montoya. Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada for sending me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. This book is currently available in stores! Content warnings
Violence, sexism, kidnapping, forced confinement, death of a parent Rosa is a Majestic, a witch with powerful magic that is feared and coveted by powerful men in the kingdom. She and many other young Majestic women are held hostage on Sinner’s Isle, an island where Doña Lucia controls their every move. Now 18, Rosa will be the most sought-after Majestic at this year’s offering. Which is why she needs to escape before someone uses the phantom magic inside her for evil. Her only hope is Mariano, the Prince of Pirates, who washes up on Sinner’s Isle after chasing his heart’s desire with an enchanted chain. But can the two escape the island before it’s too late?
I loved this book! It's got everything a good pirate story should have! Daring sword fights, magical creatures, beautiful settings, and heartwarming romance! The plot immediately drew me in. The idea of Majestics and the entire concept of Sinner's Isle was so intriguing to read about! There were plot twists at every turn and they kept me on the edge of my seat. But there was also a great balance between the action scenes and slower scenes that focused on the romance and friendship side plots. The history of this world felt as if it was about a real place, and I could easily immerse myself in it. Also, the writing style perfectly matched the tone of the story. I quickly got lost in the chapters and couldn't put it down! In addition, there were so many interesting characters that I just had to learn more about. My favourite character would have to be Rosa! I loved her determination and one thing I loved the most was that she made mistakes and learned from them. Plus her relationships with her friends and with Mariano was so much fun to read about. Speaking of the romance, it was adorable! It does begin quickly after the characters meet, but this was acknowledged and I felt like it was written in a believable way, especially when it came to the magic and fate of this world. I am so excited to read more of Angela's work in the future! This is definitely a new all-time favourite read of mine! I gave this book 4.5/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨. That's a wrap for my review of Sinner's Isle by Angela Montoya! I hope you enjoyed it. If you could have any superpower, what would you choose? Let me know in the comments below!

Hi bookworms and welcome to my review of The Bigfoot Queen by Jennifer Weiner! Thank you to Simon & Schuster for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review. This book is currently available in stores! content warnings
Kidnapping The Bigfoot Queen is the third book in the series, but it can also be read as a standalone. In it, we follow a group of friends, Alice, Millie, Jessica, and Jeremy who are fighting to protect the secret world of the creatures that call themselves the Yare. Impossible decisions are made, friendships are threatened, secrets are revealed, and tremendous courage is required. Alice, her friends, and her frenemies will have to work together and be stronger, smarter, and more accepting than they’ve ever been. But can some betrayals ever be forgiven?
I loved the themes of found family in this book! We had a large cast of characters that all had some form of self-improvement and development, I think that the multiple POVs really helped to develop each side plot. Even though this was technically the third book in the series, I agree that it can be read as a standalone. But I do think that reading the first two books would connect you to the characters more. The storyline was intriguing and was fun to follow. However, I do wish that the ending was a bit longer to give more closure. I gave this book 3.5/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨. That's a wrap for my review of The Bigfoot Queen by Jennifer Weiner! I hope you enjoyed it. Do you believe in any mythological creatures like Bigfoot? Let me know in the comments below! |
