Hello bookworms! Today's review is for One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake. I once again buddy read this with Rose from @booksofmagicandmystery which was such a fun experience! I have written a review for the first book in this series which you can find here. I can't wait to dive into this review! As this is a sequel, I will give you a synopsis of the first book as to not spoil anything! Three Dark Crowns is a YA fantasy novel set on an island called Fennbirn, where a set of triplets are born each generation. Three queens with their own magical abilities and right to the throne. Mirabella is a strong elementalist who can control the wind, water, fire and more on a whim. Katharine is a poisoner who can ingest deadly poisons and create even more dangerous ones. And finally Arsinoe, a naturalist who can grow plants and call to the wild's most fiercest creatures. Each sister must fight for the throne and kill her sisters to gain the crown. All I can say after finishing this book is wow! I am so glad to tell you that this sequel did not disappoint! It was just as intense, riveting, and intriguing as the first book. As I mentioned before, Kendare Blake's writing style really draws you in, and speeds the story along. It is multi perspective and in third person, however each perspective has its own voice and mannerisms. Which is something I find to be very impressive! The plot once again had many shocking moments. I never saw the twists coming (as usual with Kendare Blake 😂) We also delved deeper into the dark aspects of this world, which was scary but so entertaining! It added another element that grabbed your attention immediately The character development was also amazing! The way the characters interacted with the world around them was so realistic. The depth of the world is incredible! It feels as though it should be real, along with the characters themselves. This series is unlike anything I've read! I constantly changed my opinions on the characters, many of them morally grey, and kept me thinking long after. Even after finishing this book, I was constantly analyzing the plot twists and where I thought it would go. The world building feels incredibly real and unique, the history is rich and expansive with so many layers to the island itself. Even though the series is finished I feel that the author could write many more stories in this world, it's just that huge! This book is the length of a typical YA novel, however I felt that 10 times more action and events happened than most books I've read before! It was a great read and I cannot wait to read Two Dark Reigns! This series has quickly become an all time favourite series of mine. I definitely recommend it to everyone and anyone! A fantastic read to get anyone into fantasy. My rating is 5/5 Stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ That's a wrap on my review of One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake! I hope you enjoyed it. Hello bookworms! Today I'm coming to you with a review on Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco! This series is my favourite of all time so I cannot wait to discuss it with you all. I buddy read this book with Chantelle from @chantelleisbookish It was such a fun experience and I loved chatting with you, I can't wait to do another buddy read together! Since this is the last book in the series I'll give you the synopsis of the first book. It is a YA historical fiction mystery series where we follow Audrey-Rose Wadsworth who is determined to become a forensic scientist even though society frowns upon her dreams. We are also joined by the amazing Thomas Cresswell, expert of deduction and who is also training to go into the field. The pair team up to solve murders all around the world, starting with their home city of London and facing the infamous serial killer, Jack the Ripper. Kerri Maniscalco has quickly become one of my favourite writers of all time. Her writing is so elegant and it captivated me throughout the novel. Another thing I love about these books is the small images and illustrations in between chapters, like the map of Chicago seen in the image above. They add another layer to the story and bring you even deeper into it. The use of Shakespeare quotes throughout this book was quite moving and gave you hidden clues into the plot. Speaking of, the plot was entertaining and exciting, there was never a dull moment. There was definitely some scary sections, which is what I love in this series, it has amazing characters and relationships but also is intense and dark. A perfect balance! While I love all of the characters in this series with my whole heart, my favourite character is definitely Audrey. Seeing her passion for her work has made me very interested in forensic science. She is incredibly strong and brave when faced with challenges, especially being a woman in her profession. Thomas is also a great character and they complement each other very well. Hearing the author's inspiration for the series was so interesting! Personally I love learning about true crime and having a series like this that included so many of my interests was a dream come true. When I finished this last book I felt lost because I didn't want the series to end! I cannot wait to see more of Kerri Maniscalco's work in the future. I have an ARC of Kingdom of the Wicked that I am extremely excited to read, so stay tuned for my review! All in all, it was an amazing conclusion to the series. As many of you have heard before, I recommend this series to everyone that will listen. If you are looking for an amazing series to binge, now is the time! My rating for this book is 5/5 Stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ That is the end of my review for Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco! I hope you enjoyed it! Have you read this series?
