Hi bookworms! Welcome to my review of Otherworldly by F.T. Lukens. Thank you to Simon & Schuster for sending me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. This book comes out on April 2nd! content warnings
Death, violence Otherworldy follows Ellery, who doesn’t believe in the supernatural, even though they live in a region stuck in a 5 year winter. So when Ellery accidentally rescues Knox, a magical assistant on the run from crossroad demons, they don’t know what to think. Ellery doesn’t trust this paranormal origin story but Knox needs to make a deal with a human who can tether him to this realm, and Ellery needs to figure out how to stop this winter to help their family. Once their bargain is struck, there’s no backing out, and the growing connection between the two might just change everything.
If you love cozy fantasy then you need to read this book! F.T. Lukens does an amazing job of creating an immersive world with vibrant characters. From the first page, I was immediately transported to a town stuck in eternal winter. The world-building and mythology of Otherworldly were also very in-depth. I loved the characters! Ellery was the perfect mix of grumpy and determined, and Knox was such a sweet and bright light! The found family vibes were also a great touch. They definitely made me smile! However, I would have enjoyed getting to learn a bit more about the side characters and other people in the town. The writing style matched the cozy plot perfectly and the pacing was evenly balanced with exciting action scenes and heartwarming sweet moments. Otherworldly is perfect for cozy fantasy readers everywhere who can’t get enough of the found family and grumpy x sunshine tropes! I gave this book 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's a wrap for my review of Otherworldly by F.T. Lukens! I hope you enjoyed it. If you had to pick one season to be stuck in for 5 years, which would you choose? Let me know in the comments below!

Happy Thursday bookworms! Welcome to my review of Golden Gate by James Ponti. Thank you to Simon and Schuster for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review. This book is currently available in stores! Content warnings
Death, kidnapping, murder After the thrilling events of book one, the City Spies are back and the young MI6 agents have a new mission. After finding out some new intel about a potential mole in the organization, a lead brings them to San Francisco, California. As they investigate the death of a spy they soon find themselves being the centre of some unwanted attention. It’ll take some quick thinking and maybe even a rogue mission or two if they’re going to be able to outsmart double agents.
This was a great read! I loved how from the very first chapter we're thrown back into the action and adventure of the City Spies world. Just like in book one, there were exciting spy missions and daring action scenes. Each mystery and puzzle were a lot of fun to solve and their solutions were surprising at every turn. The writing style is very easy to follow and sucks you into the story. I could vividly picture each setting and it made for a very immersive reading experience. All of the amazing characters are back in full force and have a lot of character development. I'm very excited to learn more about each of the City Spies as the series continues. I also highly recommend the audiobook version, the narrator did a fantastic job of voicing all of the characters. Readers of every age will enjoy this series, I recommend it to anyone who likes a good spy story. It has everything from heists to royalty, and everything in between! A great sequel filled with exciting plot twists, intriguing puzzles, and loveable characters. I gave this book 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's a wrap on my review of Golden Gate by James Ponti. I hope you enjoyed it! If you were recruited as a spy, what would your cover story be? Let me know in the comments below! |
