Death, violence, murder, sexual abuse (mentioned, not on page), physical abuse (mentioned, not on page), animal death, blood, cutting of skin The summer of 1958 is filled with murder in the Midwest. All of the victims in different circumstances except one, their bodies completely drained of blood. When the Carlson family is slaughtered in their home int he small town of Black Deer Falls, the case gets its first lead, a girl covered in blood. 15 year old Marie Catherine Hale is found at the scene covered in blood not her own. In comes Michael Jensen, the son of the local sheriff who dreams to be a journalist. And things get interesting when Marie decides that he's the only one that she'll confess to. As Marie recounts her version of the story, it's up to Michael to get to the truth, and find out just what happened that fateful night.
As many of you know, Kendare Blake is one of my all time favourite authors. So I was beyond excited to receive an ARC of All These Bodies. While this book is very different from her Three Dark Crowns series, it still has the amazing writing and ambiance. Everyone that loves a good creepy small town mystery, this book is for you! I loved the true crime vibes from this book. The town and characters all felt so real. I could vividly picture each person and the setting, which made for an even more thrilling read. I have to say that I love our main characters Marie and Michael. While the entire book is told from Michael's perspective, I still learned so much about Marie and got to know her personality very well. I loved the complexity of her mysterious character. The whole time reading I was thinking from every angle, trying to piece this mystery together. Many times I found myself completely sucked into the story, I even put stuff I had to do on hold so I could continue reading 😂. I never could guess what would happen next and I was intrigued at every turn. I wasn't a huge fan of the ending when I first read it but I felt it worked very well with the story. In fact as time goes on, it grows on me more and more. I find myself turning over the story in my mind all the time, it's captured my attention. I had a fantastic time reading it! This book will keep you thinking long after you've finished it. I gave this book 4.5/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨. That's all for my review of All These Bodies by Kendare Blake! I hope you enjoyed it! This was a perfect spooky read! Drop your spooky book recommendations in the comments below!

Misogyny, slut shaming, hate speech Eliza Quan is the perfect candidate to become her school newspaper's next editor in chief. That is until Len DiMartile decides to run against her on a whim. Suddenly all of her qualifications and plans are thrown to the way side for this handsome male ex jock with no experience. Outraged by this, Eliza writes an accidentally viral essay which sparks a feminist movement in her school. Now she must figure out what it means to be a "true feminist" and champion gender equality, even though she may be falling for the face of patriarchy himself.
Going in I had high expectations for this book and it definitely surpassed them! I loved everything about it: the plot, the characters, the themes, not to mention this gorgeous cover! I absolutely love our main character Eliza. I found her to be incredibly real and relatable. She works tirelessly when it comes to things she cares about. She had a message she wanted to send and while she did what she thought was right, she also had lots of mishaps along the way. She felt authentic and reminded me of myself in many ways. I would definitely want to be her friend. The plot was intricately put together with just the right pacing, speeding up during exciting events but also really enjoyable during slower moments. It never had a dull moment and kept me hooked the whole time. I just had to know what was going to happen. We also can't forget about the amazing academic rivals to lovers romance! Len is definitely a new favourite book boyfriend of mine. I felt the romance progressed with great pacing and was realistic. It was really cute! Not Here to Be Liked is not just about the romance it also has great themes. It talks about what it means to be a "true feminist" and what a feminist actually is. It definitely made me think. Needless to say Not Here to Be Liked is a new all time favourite of mine! I'll definitely be recommending this book to everyone. I gave this book 5/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's a wrap on my review of Not Here to Be Liked by Michelle Quach. I hope you enjoyed it! Were/are you involved in any clubs/councils in school? Let me know in the comments below! |
