Death, violence, death of parent, murder Since the passing of his mother, Cayder has been determined to become a prosecutor against those that commit magical crimes. He sees magic as a danger, and when he has the opportunity to apprentice under a premier public defender he doesn't hesitate. Except when he meets three criminals he's supposed to defend, things no longer seem black and white. As he's trying to uncover their complicated stories it leads him to Vardean, a high security prison that just happens to be beside the tear in the veil between worlds, where all magic comes from.
I had a great time reading this book! I really enjoyed the mystery aspect and had fun piecing together each case with Cayder. The plot was fast paced and engaging, with something exciting happening on each page. The plot twists also surprised me, I didn't see them coming! As you guys all know, I love a good heist story and this book definitely delivered! The multiple perspectives really added to the tone and mystery of the book and it was satisfying when we learned new information. All of the characters felt unique and were interesting to read about. I enjoyed all of their perspectives and thought they were all important and crucial to the plot. My favourite character would have to be Cayder. I related to him the most and found his interest in law and court proceedings to be really unique and unlike other characters I've read about before. I'm excited to learn more about each character and connect with them more in the coming books. The ending of League of Liars answered a lot of my questions but gave me so many more too! I'm excited to read the sequel! I gave this book 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's a wrap on my review of League of Liars by Astrid Scholte! I hope you enjoyed it! Hi bookworms and welcome to my review of Blood Scion by Deborah Falaye! Thank you to Harper Collins Canada for sending me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. This book comes out March 8th. content warnings
Death, murder, violence, child soldiers, attempted sexual assault, self harm, war, torture Sloane is a Scion, a descendant of ancient Orisha gods. However to survive she must keep this a secret when she is forcibly conscripted as a child soldier. As she rises through the rank, she must remind herself who she really is, to stop from becoming the very monster they claim her to be.
Blood Scion started out at first with a lot of world building and plot points, however it became a bit slow in the middle. The magic system was interesting and I enjoyed seeing how Sloane interacted with her magic, but I wished I had seen more of that. In terms of the characters, I thought they were each fun to learn about. Each having their own unique backstories and personalities. I enjoyed reading about how they interacted with each other but found their friendships were a bit rushed. I also would have loved to learn more about the mythology of the Orisha gods to understand more of Sloane's background. My favourite character would have to be Sloane because I admire her love and dedication to her family. Keep in mind that if you plan to pick up this book I'd recommend checking out the content warnings to see if this is a good fit for you. I gave this book 3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's a wrap on my review of Blood Scion by Deborah Falaye. I hope you enjoyed it! Would you rather have the power to control fire, water, metal, wind, or earth? Let me know in the comments below! |
