Sexual assault (not on page), violence, murder, blackmailing, death of a parent, mention of suicide, death of a sibling, grief Six years ago, a mother drove her car into a lake with her three daughters inside. The girls managed to escape but their mother drowned, leaving them with so many questions. Now Calliope has transferred to Tipton Academy, an elite boarding school her mother attended when she was young. There she joins the secret society "Haunt and Rail" looking for some answers. But as things start to escalate, Calliope uncovers a possible connection between the society and the crash. Now she's determined to find out the truth, even if some will go to great lengths to stop her.
I'm a sucker for a boarding school mystery so I was really intrigued with the premise of this book. I enjoyed the beginning set up where we were introduced to the school and Calliope's family. There was a big cast of characters and I enjoyed learning about them all. I especially liked the scenes with Calliope's sisters and her aunt who lives near the school. However, I wish we could have delved deeper into Calliope as a person and got to see more of her growth. The short chapters definitely kept the plot moving and encouraged you to read more. The mystery was intriguing from the beginning and the element of the secret society added a fun spin. Learning about the society as a whole was very interesting, especially when it came to their decision making progress and initiations. At times I was very confused with our main character's decisions, which distracted me from the plot a bit. Something I found the most intriguing was the school setting. I had a fun time learning about the school and its history. I gave this book 3.5/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨. That's a wrap on my review of Very Bad People by Kit Frick! I hope you enjoyed it!
