Hi bookworms! Today I am super excited to review The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer! Big thank you to Harper Collins Canada for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review! Let's get started!
After Ambrose's sister, the first settler on the Saturn moon Titan, sends a distress signal he is sent on a mission to retrieve her. However Ambrose wakes up on the spaceship, the Coordinated Endeavor, with no memory of boarding. And now he realizes that another passenger Kodiak, was also sent with him. With an AI voiced by his mother, and evidence that there may have been other passengers before them, Ambrose and his unlikely ally must work together to piece together what has happened. And maybe fall in love in the process? Oh my gosh this book! I flew through The Darkness Outside Us in one glorious day and it was a fantastic experience. I absolutely loved the two main characters in this book! They both were so different from each other but worked so well together. Ambrose and Kodiak grew so much through out the course of the story. The writing was very well done and added to the fast pace of the plot. Even though some thrilling and serious events took place, there was also so much humour which I enjoyed. I'm thinking of one particular line which is still making me crack up (which I'll leave out in case of spoilers!). The setting of the Endeavour hurtling through space was still very atmospheric and I have a clear image of the ship in my mind. I loved the technology introduced like the artificial intelligence OS and rover the little robot. I even enjoyed learning about the menial repair tasks. The plot! It was filled with so many twists and turns. At many points I had to sit back from the book in shock and had to process what had happened. There was never a dull moment and I was sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time. The mystery was captivating and I just had to know what was going to happen next. I became entirely enveloped in the story and forgot my surroundings which hasn't happened in a long time! The romance was also adorable and I thought that Ambrose and Kodiak were so cute together. Can everyone drop what they're doing and read this book? I need to gush over it with someone 😂. This has become a new all time favourite book and is one of my favourite sci-fi's ever! Of course I gave this book 5/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's a wrap on my review of The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer! I hope you enjoyed it! If you were going on a space mission, which three fictional characters would you bring with you? Let me know in the comments below!
