Happy Thursday bookworms! Welcome to my review of Looking Up by Stephan Pastis! Thank you to Simon and Schuster for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review. This book comes out on October 10th! content warnings
Grief, death of a parent Looking Up is a middle-grade novel about Saint, a girl who is living with her mother in a poorer part of town. She’s sad to see her neighbourhood slowly disappearing and being replaced with fancy condos and coffee shops, but the last straw is when her favourite old toy store is demolished. So Saint decides to team up with Daniel, a boy who lives across the street (whose house is also at risk of being torn down) to save what’s left of their hometown.
Looking Up was a very sweet read! Saint was a fantastic main character! She's very intelligent so there were a lot of her thoughtful perspectives on life throughout the book. We get to follow her as she works through her emotions and grows along with it. The writing was easy to follow and Saint's perspective added quirky and endearing elements to the story. Speaking of, the humour was on point and definitely made me smile. I also loved the illustrations and found them to be very cute. They were another interesting element to the story that created a lot of depth. I think readers of all ages would enjoy this story. I gave this book 3.5/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨. That's all for my review of Looking Up by Stephan Pastis! I hope you enjoyed it. What's your favourite reading snack or drink? Let me know in the comments below!
