Happy Tuesday bookworms! Welcome to my review of Lia Park and the Heavenly Heirlooms by Jenna Yoon. Thank you to Simon & Schuster for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book is currently available in stores. content warnings
Bullying, violence Book 2 in the Lia Park series follows Lia and Joon as they start their studies at the International Magic Academy. But things aren’t calm for long when the evil nine-headed King of Darkness attacks the school and steals one of the heavenly heirlooms. To stop him from destroying the 3 heavenly heirlooms and plunging the world into darkness, Lia, Joon, and their friends must go on a mission to save the precious artifacts. But as more suspicious obstacles get in their way, Lia starts to wonder if someone from their own group is sabotaging them.
After an intriguing first book, I was excited to see more of Lia and Joon, especially in a boarding school setting. The International Magic Academy was fun to learn about and helped continue the world-building from book 1. The different magical abilities, various houses, and magical weapons were also exciting and made me want to learn more about the school and its traditions. However, a majority of the book took place at the academy and the quest began much later on, which caused the beginning half to be on the slower side. But once they started their mission it was full of action and explored more Korean myths. In terms of the writing style, it flowed nicely and was easy to follow, making it a quick read. I gave this book 3/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's all for my review of Lia Park and the Heavenly Heirlooms by Jenna Yoon. I hope you enjoyed it! Which magical weapon would you rather have? A sword, a spear, or a bow and arrows? Let me know in the comments below!
