Hi bookworms and welcome to my review of Give Me a Sign by Anna Sortino. Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book is currently available in stores! content warnings
Ableism, police brutality, violence, injury Give Me a Sign follows Lilah who doesn’t feel “deaf enough” to identify as Deaf or hearing enough to meet the world’s expectations. When she decides to become a counsellor at a summer camp for the deaf and blind, she hopes to brush up on her ASL, but she also finds a community. Plus there’s Isaac, the dreamy Deaf counsellor who volunteers to help her with her signing. One thing’s for sure, Lilah wanted change, and things here are certainly different than what she’s used to.
I had a great time reading this book! I loved the summer camp setting and felt that it gave another unique and intriguing element of nostalgia to the story. The pacing of the plot was well done, with a great balance of slow and action packed scenes. It gave Give Me a Sign a bingeworthy quality! However there were some minor plot points that I thought could have been more developed. Throughout the course of the book, I learned a lot about Deaf culture and loved the community within Camp Grey Wolf. Speaking of, we have to talk about the characters! There was a wide range of diverse characters that I had so much fun reading about. Our main character Lilah was my favourite. I loved following her journey of self discovery and learning to take pride in who she is. Meanwhile, the side characters each had their own stories and I had a great time getting to learn their individual backstories and personalities. The romance was also very cute! I was rooting for Lilah and Isaac from the very beginning! With an amazing cast of characters, an exciting setting, and great pacing, I definitely recommend Give Me a Sign for any reader looking to get out of a reading slump. It'll grab your attention and won't let go! I gave this book 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's all for my review of Give Me a Sign by Anna Sortino! I hope you enjoyed it!
