Happy Tuesday bookworms! Welcome to my review of City Spies by James Ponti. Thank you to Simon and Schuster for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review. This book is currently available in stores! content warnings
Violence, death, mention of child abuse and car accident City Spies is about a young hacker named Sara who is facing juvenile detention for hacking into the foster care system to expose her foster parents. But she’s rescued by a British spy who not only gets her released but offers her a chance to join a secret MI6 agency. Soon Sara is working with other talented kids around the globe and when they’re not honing unique skills like sleight of hand and explosives, they’re on missions to places only kids can go. Like an international youth summit in Paris where they’re trying to stop a villain, even if that means they’ll end up dangling off the side of a building.
This was a fantastic middle grade read! From the first page, City Spies grabbed my attention. Each of the characters were unique and intriguing in their own way. I loved learning more about each of them and I was very invested in their backstories. The world-building was perfectly paced. We learned about the interconnected spy world gradually which kept you wanting more. Speaking of the writing style, I really enjoyed the multiple perspectives! It gave the book an immersive quality that sucked me in while reading. The plot was action-packed and kept me guessing at every turn. It has everything a great spy book needs: daring heists, impressive gadgets, and thrilling chase scenes. I can't wait to see. what the rest of the series has in store! With a loveable cast of characters, an action-packed plot, and immersive writing, City Spies is a must-read! I gave this book 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's a wrap on my review of City Spies by James Ponti. I hope you enjoyed it! If you were a spy what would your code name be? Let me know in the comments below!
