Happy Sunday bookworms! Today I'm excited to share my review of Café Con Lychee by Emery Lee with you all! Thank you to HarperCollins Canada for sending me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. This book is out today! content warnings
Homophobia, racism, toxic masculinity, cultural appropriation Café Con Lychee is about Theo and Gabi, the sons of two rival cafés, who decide to work together when faced with a new fusion competitor. Theo wants nothing more than to leave his small town, but with the threat of his parents losing their business, he might have to give that up. Gabi is in a similar situation and can't stand the idea of losing his family's business. The two make a temporary truce and decide to sell food covertly at school in order to make some money and offset the losses. But can they set aside their rivalry to finally work together as a team?
I flew through this book in two days! I was super excited to read Café Con Lychee because the synopsis drew me in right away. The writing style was easy to follow and made for a fast read. The plot was engaging and I especially liked the scenes involving the duo's secret café and the menu items they created. I also enjoyed reading about Theo and Gabi and seeing how they grew as the book progressed. However, I wish we got to see a bit more growth from the side characters. The romance was very sweet and I was rooting for it from page 1! Even though this book is about romance, we also had a big focus on family. Both families were very different from each other and I really enjoyed seeing how this impacted Theo and Gabi. What I loved the most was seeing how these dynamics shifted and changed as our main characters grew. In the end I really enjoyed the focus on family relationships and character growth in this book. I can't wait to read more of Emery's future books! I gave this book 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's a wrap on my review for Café Con Lychee by Emery Lee! I hope you enjoyed it!
