Happy Friday bookworms! Today I'm excited to review Sisters of the Snake by Sarena and Sasha Nanua. Thank you to Harper Collins Canada for sending me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review! This book comes out June 15th! Let's dive in!
Twins separated at birth, both live very different lives. Princess Rani wants to live free from the confines of the palace and prove her worth as a leader. Ria the street urchin is fighting to stay alive each day. When both girls meet their identical double, their lives are turned upside down. They make a deal to switch places and lives but they must come together if they hope to save their new found friends, their family and their kingdom. I became so immersed in this story! I loved the setting and intricate world of the kingdom. As I read, I was introduced to a complex and intriguing magic system and world history. The writing was very well done and I learned each new detail gradually. I really enjoyed our main characters Ria and Rani, Ria being my favourite. They both had their own voice and unique perspective on life. I got to see their growth and progression as the plot advanced which was great to see! Ria was my favourite twin as I related to her the most, she had a fire and drive that I admired. She was also incredibly kind to another one of my favourite characters, a servant in the palace. But Rani was also driven, and fuelled by her love for her kingdom. The side characters were intriguing but I wish that we got a closer look at their backgrounds and gotten to know them better. We also had cute romances that I thought were well written and realistic. The plot was exciting, with new developments occurring at every turn. Many times I sat down to read for 30 minutes and the next thing I knew 2 hours had gone by! The chapters were formatted in an addictive way where each would end on a mini cliff hanger. I finished this book in 5 days but I know that if I didn't have school work it would've been finished a lot sooner. What I loved most about the magic system was the snake magic. It was very unique and I loved seeing it in action, especially the snake familiars like Shima. She provided some funny comedic relief but also acted as Ria's guide to palace. I can't wait to continue with this series and see what Rani and Ria will face next! I gave this book 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's a wrap for my review of Sisters of the Snake! I hope you enjoyed it! Would you rather pretend to be a princess in a palace filled with enemies or hunt for a mythical gem while out running the law? Let me know in the comments below!

Hi bookworms and welcome to my review of The Ivies by Alexa Donne. I'd like to thank Penguin Teen Canada for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review! Now let's get into it!
At Claflin Academy, five girls called The Ivies all have the same mission, to get into prestigious Ivy League schools by any means necessary. Wether that be sabotaging club leadership positions, competitions, or class ranks, among other things. Everything is going according to plan until a student is murdered after early admission decisions are sent out, and everyone is pointing fingers. As you might know, The Ivies was one of my most anticipated releases of 2021! (You can read that blog post here!) I absolutely love books with boarding school settings and one of my favourite genres is mystery so this sounded like a dream come true! I quickly became hooked while reading this and became immersed in the story quickly. Our main character Olivia has a very authentic voice and made for a great narrator and guide through the world of Claflin Academy. I thought that all of the characters, especially the rest of The Ivies were very authentic and were easy to picture as being real people. I felt that the progression of the mystery was very well paced and did not drag at any point. Throughout the book we learn the many secrets and dark underbelly of the academy which kept me flipping through the pages. I enjoyed all of the plot twists and didn't see many of them coming. However the conclusion to this mystery felt a bit predictable to me and unrealistic. I found that many of the choices in the conclusion, including those of the main character, to be frustrating but I could see why they happened. Overall I had a great time reading The Ivies and found it to be very entertaining. I recommend this to fans of Truly Devious! I gave this book 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's all for my review of The Ivies! I hope you enjoyed it! If you could stay at a boarding school anywhere in the world where would you pick? Let me know in the comments below! |
