Hello and welcome to another blog post bookworms! Today I am very excited to be talking to you guys about some of my most anticipated releases of 2021! With the start of a new year comes all of the new amazing book releases! This list contains 15 releases that I am the most excited to read, they are ordered by release date! Now without further ado, let's get into it! Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas January 12th After how much I loved The Hate U Give, I was very excited to hear this was coming out! In Concrete Rose we follow Star's father when he was a teenager, as he deals with becoming a father while also juggling school. I'm interested to see how this will all unfold! The Girls I've Been by Tess Sharpe January 26th The synopsis for The Girls I've Been immediately caught my attention. It's about a con-artist who steals from criminals who gets taken hostage in a bank robbery! I've also heard rumours that this is being adapted by Netflix! I was very excited to receive an ARC from Penguin Teen Canada, so look out for a review of this soon! Fat Chance, Charlie Vega by Crystal Maldonado February 2nd Fat Chance, Charlie Vega is all about (you guessed it) Charlie Vega! A plus size brown girl living in Connecticut, Charlie constantly feels like she needs to change. Only her friend Amelia makes her feel comfortable in her own skin, until Brian asks her out. Except he asked Amelia out first... and she starts questioning everything. I also have an ARC for this from Penguin Teen Canada, this sounds like a great contemporary with important themes! Hot British Boyfriend by Kristy Boyce February 9th To start off, this cover is so beautiful! It draws you in right away. The story also sounds very cute! Our main character goes on her high school's abroad trip to London. She teams up with a classmate she never liked in order to win over a cute British boy. I'm definitely looking forward to reading this, especially because of the travel element. Tell Me My Name by Amy Reed March 9th Some of you may know that The Great Gatsby was one of my top 10 reads of 2020, I've also heard that this is a gender swapped version of that book! This psychological thriller looks very intriguing! Thank you to Penguin Teen Canada for the ARC copy! Can't wait to dive into this! The Mary Shelley Club by Goldy Moldavsky April 13th Another thriller bookworms! I can tell no one is surprised 😂. My love of thrillers lives on! This is also set at a boarding school which I discovered is a setting that I love! I find that it makes the characters build closer relationships and the betrayals feel even worse. In The Mary Shelley Club we have a club of boarding school kids who want to create the scariest prank in order to create real fear in their classmates... that is until someone starts attacking the club itself. I'm hoping to see some horror themes in this book so that it can resemble Mary Shelley's writing and vibe! Witches Steeped in Gold by Ciannon Smart April 20th This is one of my most anticipated fantasies of the year! I attended the Harper Collins Canada Presents Winter Preview and the author was the guest speaker! I had a lot of fun learning about her writing process and getting to know the background of the book. I also received a physical ARC in the mail last week and I am so excited to start it! I've heard amazing things! In Deeper Waters by F.T. Lukens April 20th Once again can we please talk about how gorgeous this cover is! In Deeper Waters is a LGBTQ pirate fantasy, need I say more! I don't know about you guys but I NEED more pirate fiction! I've heard this book described as A Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue meets Pirates of the Caribbean which sounds amazing! I absolutely love Pirates of the Caribbean, and I'm hoping some humour is included in this book! There's kidnapping, disappearances, and magic! Luck of the Titanic by Stacey Lee May 4th Another genre I'd like to read more of is historical fiction! I haven't read many, and I feel like I am definitely missing out! I attended a Herstory Tea event with Penguin Teen Canada and that is where I first heard about this book! The story of the Titanic is something that always interested me, and in this book we follow the story of six Titanic survivors of Chinese descent. This sounds like a very intriguing story! Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard May 4th This book also has a pirate theme! While I haven't read Victoria Aveyard's Red Queen series, this sounds like it will be very unique and intriguing. Our main character has a pirate mother and we also have a rag tag group of allies! Another element I love in books is a rag tag group of friends, I find it adds so much variety to a story. The Ivies by Alexa Donne May 25th The Ivies is centred around teens that "will stop at nothing to get into the college of their dreams". It also promises to be full of mystery and murder which is always something I'm interested in reading about. College admissions is something I haven't read about before so it should be a fun experience! Sunny Song Will Never Be Famous by Suzanne Park June 1st I really enjoyed Suzanne Park's other YA book, The Perfect Escape. I can't wait for another funny and binge worthy read! Sunny Song Will Never Be Famous follows an Instagram influencer that is sent to a digital detox farm camp, which is something I've never read about before! It sounds like it will be very funny and also unique! The Box in the Woods by Maureen Johnson June 15th We all knew this was coming! 😂The Truly Devious series is an all time favourite of mine and having more mysteries with Stevie Bell is something I could never pass up! I HAVE to read The Hand on the Wall before this comes out. I'm actually planning on rereading the whole original trilogy! Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim July 6th Another fantasy type retelling by Elizabeth Lim! This one sounds like it will be full of magic and adventure! After her evil stepmother turns her brothers into cranes, she orders Shiori to never speak again, or her brothers would die. We follow her and her adventure to find her brothers, which has all the makings for a fun fantasy adventure! I have yet to read Unravel the Dusk, but I did enjoy Spin the Dawn! The Perfect Place to Die by Bryce Moore August 3rd Last but not least we have The Perfect Place to Die by Bryce Moore! This has been pitched as a Stalking Jack the Ripper meets a YA version of Devil in the White City which grabbed my attention right away. You all know that Stalking Jack the Ripper is one of my favourite books of all time so I will 100% read anything associated or related to it. 😂We follow the main character who is investigating the disappearance of her sister, which leads her to the hotel run by the notorious serial killer Dr. H. H. Holmes. That's all of the my anticipated releases of 2021 bookworms! I hope you are as excited for these releases as I am! What are some of your most anticipated releases?
