Homophobia, bullying, mention of suicidal thoughts and depression This edition of I Have Something to Tell You is adapted for young adults and is a memoir detailing Chasten’s experience growing up gay in a small town. It talks all about his journey to acceptance and self love, and aims to inspire young people across the country to embrace who they are.
This memoir was heartwarming and inspiring! I thought that this young adult adaptation did a great job of being engaging and informative. One of my favourite aspects was the writing style. It felt as if you were having a chat with Chasten as he told the story of his childhood. The tone was very conversational and open, which made my reading experience even more enjoyable. As he recounts his past experiences, Chasten touches on several topics pertaining to LGBTQ+ youth. He also imparts general life advice, about everything from school to future life plans. I Have Something to Tell You is a great resource for LGTQ+ youth, allies, and adults, it even has some discussion questions at the back of the book. Chasten's childhood photos were also fun to see and added another personal touch to the book as a whole. A beautiful story that will inspire many young adults. I gave this book 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's a wrap on my review of I Have Something to Tell You by Chasten Buttigieg! I hope you enjoyed it! Do you read memoirs and non-fiction books? Let me know in the comments below!

Hi bookworms! Welcome to my review of A Million to One by Adiba Jaigirdar. I was sent this ARC copy by HarperCollins Canada in exchange for an honest review. This book is currently available in stores. Content warnings
Drowning, mentions of parental neglect, parental abandonment, parental death, abuse Set on the Titanic, 4 girls: a thief, an actress, an artist, and an acrobat must team up to steal a precious artifact that will change their lives forever. But plans are thrown to the wayside as an unexpected tragedy strikes and past grudges, careless mistakes, and romance get in the way of their goal. Will the group be able to trust one another and survive?
I love reading about heists, it's one of my all time favourite tropes. Plus, the Titanic is such an exciting and high stakes setting that I knew I had to pick this book up. The beginning of A Million to One was a great set up for the story. I enjoyed learning about each of the girls on the team and their motivations for joining the heist. Unfortunately, the pacing of this book was too fast. While we had a great cast of characters, their development and relationships felt rushed. It was hard to get invested in their stories when we didn't get a more in depth look at their pasts. The heist itself was an intriguing idea and I liked the Titanic ship setting and how this made their goal more difficult. However, when the ship hit the iceberg, the plot was predictable and I was able to guess what would happen early on. All in all, the concept of A Million to One was a lot of fun, but the pacing took away from the story. I gave this book 3/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's all for my review of A Million to One by Adiba Jaigirdar! I hope you enjoyed it! What’s an event in history you love learning about? Let me know in the comments below! |
