Hi bookworms! Welcome to my review of A Million to One by Adiba Jaigirdar. I was sent this ARC copy by HarperCollins Canada in exchange for an honest review. This book is currently available in stores. Content warnings
Drowning, mentions of parental neglect, parental abandonment, parental death, abuse Set on the Titanic, 4 girls: a thief, an actress, an artist, and an acrobat must team up to steal a precious artifact that will change their lives forever. But plans are thrown to the wayside as an unexpected tragedy strikes and past grudges, careless mistakes, and romance get in the way of their goal. Will the group be able to trust one another and survive?
I love reading about heists, it's one of my all time favourite tropes. Plus, the Titanic is such an exciting and high stakes setting that I knew I had to pick this book up. The beginning of A Million to One was a great set up for the story. I enjoyed learning about each of the girls on the team and their motivations for joining the heist. Unfortunately, the pacing of this book was too fast. While we had a great cast of characters, their development and relationships felt rushed. It was hard to get invested in their stories when we didn't get a more in depth look at their pasts. The heist itself was an intriguing idea and I liked the Titanic ship setting and how this made their goal more difficult. However, when the ship hit the iceberg, the plot was predictable and I was able to guess what would happen early on. All in all, the concept of A Million to One was a lot of fun, but the pacing took away from the story. I gave this book 3/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's all for my review of A Million to One by Adiba Jaigirdar! I hope you enjoyed it! What’s an event in history you love learning about? Let me know in the comments below!
