It's Saturday bookworms and today I'm reviewing A is for Arson by A.N. Horton! I'd like to thank the author for requesting an honest review! I'm excited to share my thoughts with you all so let's get started! Content warnings
Fire, stalking, burning buildings, violence (not graphic) Charlotte Porter lives in Victoria Era London with her younger sister and father in their bookshop. But one day her father's gambling debts cause trouble and end in their bookshop burning down. However things start to look up when she meets Alexander Langley, a private investigator for Scotland Yard. Soon enough she's swept into an investigation of an art theft involving one of London's elite, all while trying to dodge the powerful creditors hell bent on getting their money back. I've been in the mood for a good historical mystery for a long time and this was just what I needed! I loved the setting of Victoria Era London, it has such a great time period to explore! What I enjoyed most was the characters. Our main character Charlotte was my favourite, she's strong and determined and goes against all of the female stereotypes of her time period. I also enjoyed Alexander's character and his family. I would have liked to see a little bit more development of the characters but I'm sure that will take place in the coming books. The mystery itself was entertaining and I didn't see the big twist at the end coming! I liked the overall classic mystery tone of the book and how the characters solved the mystery. The writing style contributed to this greatly and I found that it fit perfectly with the vibe of the book. I finished this book in less than 24 hours and it was addicting to read! That said I wish it was a little bit longer because I definitely want to know what will happen next! I'll be continuing this series for sure! I definitely recommend this for fans of Stalking Jack the Ripper that would like more of a cozy mystery vibe! I gave this book 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's all for my review of A is For Arson by A.N. Horton! I hope you enjoyed it! How do you keep record of what you read? Let me know in the comments below!
