Happy Friday bookworms! Today I am SO excited to share with you all my review of A Far Wilder Magic by Allison Saft! Big thank you to Wednesday Books and the author for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review. This book is currently available in stores. Also head on over to my Instagram to see a crossword I made all about the book! On my stories I'm shouting out the first 3 people that send me a completed crossword! Content warnings
Animal death, racism, grief, mentions of death of a parent and sibling, parental neglect, violence, PTSD Margaret Welty, the best sharpshooter in town, is stunned when she sees the hala, a mythical creature whose appearance signals the beginning of the Halfmoon Hunt. If she wins she might finally get her mother to come home, The problem is, she needs an alchemist. Weston Winters has been fired from very alchemy apprenticeship he's attempted. In a last ditch effort he arrives at Welty Manor looking for Margaret's mother but finds only her daughter, who begrudgingly allows him to stay, but only if he joins the hunt with her. As tensions rise and the hunt looms closer, these two outsiders will need to stick together if they have any hopes of winning.
Where to begin with this book? I absolutely adored everything about it. From the characters, to the setting, to the magic system, it was all so exciting! As I'm sure you all know by now I really love Allison's writing style. (She could write a chicken soup recipe and I'd be running to the bookstore to buy a copy.) The beautiful prose created vivid images of the setting and each of the characters. I can picture in my mind our small town setting, Welty manor, and the woods with so much detail. Allison has a way of describing how characters are feeling in such a seamless manner. It makes you forget where you are, and that you're reading at all. I became so immersed in this book and flew through it, I couldn't put it down! I know for sure that if I had the time I would've read it in one sitting. I have so many quotes saved where the writing just spoke to me. The magic system was also so intriguing. Every time alchemy was mentioned I was so excited to learn more and see Wes' thought process. Now let's talk about the characters, my favourite part of this book! I love Wes and Margaret with my whole heart and I know they're going to be characters that stick with me forever. I related to both of them in so many different ways. From the first page I was immediately intrigued with who they were as people and wanted them to succeed. Something that I love the most about them is that they're realistically flawed. They make mistakes, they have insecurities, and they're working through a lot mentally. Seeing how they grew together but also individually was so heart warming. I especially like how it's not only their romance that helps them grow, but also their friendship and genuine care for each other. That said this book is very character driven, and I enjoyed it so much! I really connected with them and finishing the book left me feeling like my heart was broken but also put back together in the best way. I felt so many emotions while reading this book, and the ending definitely made me cry. As soon as I finished I felt like starting from the beginning again. This book has become a new all time favourite of mine. I love it with my whole heart and will be recommending this to anyone that'll listen. Of course I gave this book 5/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's all for my review of A Far Wilder Magic by Allison Saft! I hope you enjoyed it! I had so much fun talking about how much I enjoyed this book.
