Happy Friday bookworms! I'd like to welcome you to another review! Today I'm going to be reviewing The Threat Below by J.S. Latshaw. I'd like to thank the author for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review. Let's dive in!
Three hundred years ago a terrible threat wiped out most human life on Earth, only a few survivors ascended on top of a mountain to escape. When the villagers learn that their only water supply is being poisoned they send an expedition team, including Icelyn Brathius to face the terrors below. Soon Icelyn uncovers secrets from hundreds of years ago, but will she survive long enough to understand them? When I first heard about this book I was intrigued by how creative the premise was. I haven't read many young adult dystopian books recently so I thought this would be an interesting change. Unfortunately I was not a fan of the characters, and they didn't undergo any development which caused the plot to drag. This book was told in a multi-perspective format, however the perspectives changed quite frequently and without warning. One sentence would be from the perspective of Icelyn but the next would be from the perspective of her father, and so on, alternating between more than 4 characters. The constant switching was confusing and took away from the plot. However I did like reading about the past experiences of some of the villagers and found the history to be interesting. Ultimately my lack of interest in the characters and some plot holes made this reading experience tiring. I gave this book 2/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️. That's all for my review of The Threat Below by J.S. Latshaw! I hope you enjoyed it! What are your weekend reading plans? Let me know in the comments below!
