Hello and welcome to another blog tour bookworms! This tour is all about Sing Me Forgotten by Jessica S. Olsen. I'd like to first thank Turn the Page Tours for choosing me to be a part of this book tour! Here is the schedule for the rest of the tour if you would like to follow the other stops! As part of this tour I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Synopsis Isda does not exist. At least not beyond the opulent walls of the opera house. Cast into a well at birth for being one of the magical few who can manipulate memories when people sing, she was saved by Cyril, the opera house's owner. Since that day, he has given her sanctuary from the murderous world outside. All he asks in return is that she use her power to keep ticket sales high- and that she stay out of sight. For if anyone discovers she survived, Isda and Cyril would pay with their lives. But Isda breaks Cyril's cardinal rule when she meets Emeric Rodin, a charming boy who throws her quiet, solitary life out of balance. His voice is unlike any she's ever heard, but the real shock comes when she finds in his memories hints of a way to finally break free of her gilded prison. Haunted by this possibility, Isda spends more and more time with Emeric, searching for answers in his music and his past. But the price to freedom is steeper than Isda could ever know. For even as she struggles with her growing feelings for Emeric, she learns that in order to take charge of her own destiny, she must become the monster the world tried to drown in the first place. Publisher: Inkyard Press Release Date: March 9, 2021 Genre: YA Fiction - Fantasy, Romance, Retellings My Review Once I heard that this book was a Phantom of the Opera retelling, I was immediately intrigued. We definitely see the resemblance to the original story but it is also very much it's own story with an interesting magic system. The system was easy to follow however there were a few scenes that confused me with the specifics of it. The beginning of the book started off a bit slow but the last quarter definitely had a lot of action. I was interested in Isda and her life but at many points I didn't understand her decision making. I also enjoyed the love interest Emeric and wished we got to see more of him as it felt as their relationship was a little rushed. There were some avenues in the plot that I would have loved to explore more. I enjoyed the writing and found many quotes that I really loved. Such as "I am the Channe Opera House Ghost. Bearer of nightmares. And just as worthy to walk under an open sky as anyone else." What I most enjoyed was the atmosphere of the old opera house and the catacombs, it felt just like when I was watching the movie! Overall it was a very unique take on Phantom of the Opera. I gave this book 3.5/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨. Mood Board Favourite Quotes Author Information

Hello and welcome to another review bookworms! Today I'll be reviewing Tell Me My Name by Amy Reed. I'd like to thank Penguin Teen Canada for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review! This book comes out tomorrow!
Fern lives on Commodore Island, a place for the rich and famous, Her life feels like it is full of waiting for something, that is until actress and pop stat Ivy Avila lands on the island. Suddenly Fern is swept up into lavish parties, fame and fortune, But as she gets closer to Ivy she realizes not all is what it seems, and Fern's life starts to unravel around her. Drought descends, fires burn, and Fern won't emerge from it the way she once was. When I heard this book was a gender flipped Great Gatsby I was very intrigued. The Great Gatsby is one of my favourite classics and I was excited to see a new take on the original story. That said, the plot did follow The Great Gatsby very closely and I could easily identify what characters represented the originals. Unfortunately the writing style was very confusing to me. At many points Fern was imagining things happening and then stating what actually happened, which left me very confused as to what was actually going on. I also did not enjoy any of the characters. They were very dislikable, and I had hoped that they would have some redemption, or change of heart, but in the end I ended up disliking them more. The plot is very similar to the original classic and unfortunately only diverts from it for a big plot twist near the end. About halfway through the book I guessed what it would be and was not very surprised when it was revealed. I think those who have not read the original classic would enjoy this book more. What I would have liked to see more of was the futuristic element of the setting, that touched on global warming impacts and social class divides. I enjoyed seeing this setting and thought it added to the true nature of Gatsby where we talk about wasting money and resources at the expense of others. Unfortunately this book just wasn't for me. I gave it a 2/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️. That's all for my review of Tell Me My Name by Amy Reed! I hope you enjoyed it! |
