Physical abuse, car crash, violence, kidnapping, sexual abuse, suicide, child abuse, death of a parent, amnesia, drowning, murder, stalking After a woman is found in a terrible car accident, she cannot remember who she is. Fifteen years later she still hasn't regained her memory but is hoping to start a new life. Her best friend Lindsay, a defence lawyer and the one who found her after the accident, becomes very concerned after Hope vanishes without a trace. The only clue, a drop of blood with a connection to a notorious murderer. Lindsay then enlists the help of Ellie, an NYPD detective who is the daughter of the cop that investigated this killer. But as the story starts to unravel, they realize things may be more connected than they seem.
This book starts off with a very interesting premise. I really liked the idea of a girl who had no memory of who she was and it set the tone for the whole book. We follow the perspective of many different characters throughout the book. This helped paint a better picture of the town but also took a while getting used to as there are many characters and side plots going on at once. The writing was clear and easy to follow, with intriguing lines at the end of each chapter to propel you into the next chapter. There were many plot twists that I didn't see coming however the very ending twist I could guess very early on. I enjoyed learning about the characters and found each of their stories interesting. My favourite character is probably Ellie. I liked her overall calm approach to things and deductive reasoning. It was also fun to watch Lindsay investigate on her own and to get a glimpse into detective and lawyer work. I wasn't a huge fan of Hope herself but she proved to be an interesting person to read about. The mystery itself was well written and I felt that all loose ends were tied up. I liked how connected everything was. Overall an intriguing mystery but I was able to guess the ending plot twist early on and at points the multitude of characters made things confusing. I gave this book 3/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's a wrap on my review of Find Me by Alafair Burke. I hope you enjoyed it! Do you have any thriller or mystery books you love? Death of a parent, grief, cancer, violence, kidnapping, blood, drowning, imprisonment In a world where magic is illegal, Josslyn Drake is in big trouble when she accidentally walks into a robbery gone wrong and gets infected with magic. What's even worse is that this magic allows her to see memories of the kingdom's most evil warlock. Now determined to get rid of it, she unwillingly decides to work with wanted criminal Jericho. But the more secrets she uncovers, Joss realizes that she may not be able to trust anyone, not even what she believes to be true.
I had a lot of fun reading this book! In this book we follow Joss' perspective. At first I wasn't a huge fan of her but I liked seeing how she slowly developed into a more compassionate and understanding person. I also thought that the pacing of the book as a whole was well done. We had a good balance between action scenes, and scenes that developed the plot and characters. Speaking of characters I enjoyed them all! My favourite would have to be Jericho. I really liked learning about his past and him as a person. However, I would have liked to get to know some of the side characters a bit more since I found them intriguing. The plot itself was exciting with an overall fun premise, and the ending left me excited for the next book. Many questions I had were answered but I also have so many more new ones I can't wait to have answered. I'm looking forward to reading more books by Morgan Rhodes! I'm always excited to read books by Canadian authors! I gave this book 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's a wrap on my review of Echoes and Empires by Morgan Rhodes! I hope you enjoyed it!
