Hello and welcome to a new blog post bookworms! As the year comes to a close I love to look back on all of the books I've read. Today I'll be sharing with you guys my top 10 reads of 2020! I read a lot of great books this year and they definitely helped me get through all the stress and craziness it had to offer. This list from oldest to most recently read, I couldn't rank them because I love them all for so many different reasons! Without further ado let's get into it! 1. Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I loved all of the characters and the story never had a dull moment. The artwork included along with the unique format makes it so unique and intriguing. To anyone planning on reading these books, I 100% recommend reading the physical book while also listening to the audiobook. The audiobook is full cast and wonderfully produced. 2. Heartless by Marissa Meyer This book broke my heart in so many ways! The world building in this was amazing, I felt like it was a real place, with living people and creatures and vivid imaging. The writing was beautiful and it had such a creative spin on the traditional Alice in Wonderland tale. This is probably my favourite retelling ever! This makes me very excited to read more of Marissa Meyer's work. 3. The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvater This was a book that I knew I'd enjoy before even picking it up! Since reading this I've also read the sequel, The Dream Thieves. What I liked most about this book was the characters. The Raven Boys themselves each had so much going on in their own lives and I liked aspects of each of them along with Blue. It was also a bit of an introduction to mythical urban fantasy, but it felt like it's own genre in a way as well. 4. Escaping from Houdini by Kerri Maniscalco I love the Stalking Jack the Ripper series! While this wasn't my favourite of the series I still had fun with it. I really enjoyed the setting of a luxury yacht and the mystery kept me intrigued at all times. It was nice to also see Audrey and Thomas' relationship progress. I had a ton of fun buddy reading this and Capturing the Devil with Chantelle from @chantelleisbookish! 5. Stepsister by Jennifer Donnelly Stepsister was the first buddy read I did with Rose from Books of Magic and Mystery! We've read many more since then but this was a great starting book! This was another great spin on a classic fairytale. It had so many great messages about feminism and believing in yourself during difficult times. I am very excited to read Poisoned by this author! 6. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo I fell in love with this series very quickly! I actually binge read this trilogy in a month. I'd say that Shadow and Bone was my favourite of the three. I absolutely loved the world and the magic system in this book. The creative powers and groups of people were something I enjoyed very much. I also finally was able to understand why everyone loved the Darkling so much. 😂 7. Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake Three Dark Crowns was another buddy read with Rose! We honestly have the best buddy reads 😂. This is 100% one of my favourite series now and I'm so glad I finally read it! This is filled with so much action and drama you won't see it coming! Once again I connected with the characters a lot and seeing them progress and grow was lovely! 8. The Magic Fish by Trung Le Nguyen An all time favourite graphic novel! I had the privilege to receive an ARC of this book and I was blown away by how much I loved it! The artwork is amazing and the was story heartfelt. It made me tear up a little at the end! I definitely recommend this book to everyone! 9. Master of One by Jaida Jones & Dani Bennett I read Master of One for a book tour and I really enjoyed it! The world and magic system was very unique and unlike anything I'd read before. I flew through it very quickly and I am anxiously awaiting the next book! The combination of humour along with fast paced action made for a very interesting read! 10. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald I actually read this for school and had no idea how much I would enjoy it! This is probably my favourite classic along with War and Peace. I liked the writing style and prose and it was fun to discuss it with others. I also recommend the 1974 version of the movie. That's all for my top 10 reads of 2020! I hope you enjoyed it!
