Hi bookworms! Since it's officially October I thought I'd recommend some books that I think would be perfect to read around Halloween time! All of these books have spooky vibes that definitely give a haunting vibe to your night.

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

I actually read this book on Halloween a couple years ago! It has the perfect amount of chilling murder mystery to add a bit of Halloween flair. We follow Audrey-Rose Wadsworth whose dream is to become a forensic scientist and to solve crimes.  Each book revolves around a particular historical figure like Jack the Ripper, and Prince Dracula. There is so many creepy moments added in but it is also so intriguing and funny! The banter between the main characters provides some much needed tension relief. Audrey-Rose is probably my favourite female lead! And Thomas is for sure my favourite bookish love interest. This book had me on the edge of my seat till the end! It is also one of my most loved books of all time.

The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White

This being a retelling of Frankenstein it is one of the first books I thought of when making this list! The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein turns the original classic on its head. We follow a girl named Elizabeth who is taken in by the Frankenstein family because she is the only one that can tame the anger of their son Victor. As Victor's anger and experimental nature begins to grow, it creates danger for everyone around him. Meanwhile, Elizabeth is determined to remain useful in order to survive and is willing to do anything to keep her vital position in the family, even if it means covering for Victor's dark experiments. All of the haunting undertones of this book definitely scream Halloween. There is a dark ominous feeling throughout the whole book, along with some spine chilling scenes,

Undead Girl Gang by Lily Anderson

This book is a contemporary about girls that love witchcraft. And when two girls, along with Mila's best friend wind up dead, she doesn't want to believe. it. So much so that she brings them back to life to prove it. Unfortunately the girls don't remember anything about who killed them, so Mila and the undead girls head out to find for themselves. Even though this wasn't one of my most favourite books, I know a lot of people who have enjoyed it. And I think some people would enjoy it during this season. Now I don't know about you guys but zombies are one of the first monsters I think about when it comes to Halloween. I mean Mila raised the undead! It has lots of creepy moments and also some gross ones too, since the girls can't stay undead forever...

Nightmares! by Jason Segel and Kristen Miller

Nightmares! Is a middle grade novel about Charlie Laird who has a lot of problems in his life right now. His dad married a women who he thinks is a witch, he moved into her weird purple mansion, and every time he falls asleep he has horrible nightmares. As we follow Charlie's nightmare world we encounter many creepy characters, And when these nightmares start to come true Charlie needs all the help he can get, or else he might disappear for good. Halloween is all about nightmares and being scared. But this book is also about facing your fears which is a great theme for the season.

Hello bookworms! Today I'm talking about six of my favourite childhood series! Each of these titles I hold close to my heart and they each remind me of memories from when I was younger. Now without further delay let's get into the list!

1. Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder

This is a classic Canadian children's novel, and it was one of the first chapter books I remember reading. The events in this series actually took place which is something I find made the experience even more enjoyable. The author details the story of her life so intricately and descriptively that at times when food is mentioned I immediately felt hungry. When I think of my childhood this is one of the first books that come to mind.

2. Anne of Green Gables by L.M Montgomery

Another Canadian childhood classic! I have some really fond memories of these books and I even went to P.E.I to visit the Anne of Green Gables Heritage Place. I connected and cared for the characters of these books very deeply. In fact these books were the first to make me cry while reading. Which I know doesn't sound very pleasant but it showed me just how much I could care for fictional characters. The writing is lovely and the storyline never ceases to capture your attention. When I think of Anne, I think of happiness and carefree days.

3. The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis

This series is another one I read when I was really young. The Chronicles of Narnia is a well known children's classic. I remember loving the characters very much and I also loved the whimsy of these books. I enjoyed the movies as well and from what I can remember I believe they were quite accurate. This series introduced me to books with magic.

4. Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

I have a weird relationship with this series. I read up to the sixth book in the series but then I stopped. If you've read the sixth book you'll know what I'm referring to, but there was a major plot twist at the end of book six that I didn't like. For some reason this was big enough for me to put the series down when I was little. I'm planning on rereading the books and finishing it this time. Artemis' character was one I really enjoyed, as well as Holly. The plot was captivating and is unlike anything I've read before. I felt like it was a combination of sci-fi and fantasy all in one. The series was also very humorous which was something  else I remember enjoying. The movie also just came out so I'm looking forward to seeing it!

5. The 39 Clues by Various Authors

This is by far the longest series I have read. I was introduced to these books because of book fairs at school. I remember thinking these books were very fun but near the end of multiple spin off series it got repetitive. I enjoyed the characters but I felt that they felt very disjointed because of the different authors writing the books. I would have liked if they had coordinated it more. That being said, I did read all of the books so I did have fun reading them.

6. A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket

Where do I begin with this series? I loved every moment of reading these books. The intricacy of the plot and the hilarious characters. There was also surprisingly sad moments as well which were really well done. The tv series that came out on Netflix is amazing as well! I definitely recommend!
