Happy Tuesday bookworms! Today I'm excited to share my review of Out of the Blue by Jason June with you all! Thank you to HarperCollins Canada for sending me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. This book is out May 31st! content warnings
Cheating (mentioned) Out of the Blue is set in a world where merfolk are real and centres around Crest as they go on their Journey, which is a month long trip where they must go on land and help a human. The catch is that they need to finish their task before the next moon cycle or be stuck on land forever. Needless to say Crest is NOT looking forward to it. That's until they meet lifeguard Sean, and Crest agrees to fake date him in order for Sean to get back at his ex-boyfriend.
The synopsis of this book drew me in right away. I love books with mermaids/pirates and ocean themes so I knew I had to pick this up. The plot was intriguing and I thought that the fake dating trope worked really well. I also had fun reading about each of the characters. I'd have to say Sean was my favourite. I especially liked learning about his interest in film making. However, I do wish that we got to learn more about the magic system and Crest's life in the ocean. I enjoyed the writing style and felt that the pacing was well done throughout the book. At first I wasn't a huge fan of the ending but the more I think about it, the more I think it worked well with the story. The romance was very cute and I was rooting for our main characters from the very beginning. This is definitely a great summer read! I gave this book 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's all for my review for Out of the Blue by Jason June! I hope you enjoyed it! If you were a merperson, what colour would your tail be and what kind of ocean animal would be your companion?
