Happy Wednesday bookworms! Today I'm excited to share my review of Good Girl, Bad Blood of Holly Jackson with you all! I'd like to thank Penguin Teen Canada for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review! I'd also like to mention that since this book is a sequel my synopsis does contain spoilers for the first book. If you'd like to see my thoughts and spoiler free review of the first book click here! Now let's dive in!
Since solving a murder case last year with Ravi Singh, Pip has released her own true-crime podcast and it became a viral sensation. She swears that she's put her detective days behind her, until Jamie Reynolds goes missing on the night of the memorial for Andie Bell and Sal Singh. When the police refuse to help, Pip takes things in her own hands and uncovers more of the town's dark secrets. But can she find Jamie before it's too late? Since I absolutely loved A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, I was super excited to dive into Good Girl, Bad Blood. Like the first book, I related to Pip so much and she was my favourite character by far. We got to see how she was affected by the events of the previous book, and I felt it to be very realistic. Pip was very much impacted by what she had been through and even though I felt very sympathetic for her situation, I was happy that this wasn't glossed over and that Pip was changed by the experience. That said I felt that she lost a little bit of that quirkiness I adored in the first book. I also wished that Ravi was more present in the book. But every scene that he was in, I loved his character just like before. We also saw a bit more of Pip's family dynamic that I enjoyed, particularly her relationship with her stepdad. Now let's talk about the mystery! Like before, the mystery was very well plotted and felt intricate and real. The multiple forms of media were a special element that I enjoyed once again, adding to the real-life feel of the story. Unfortunately, I was able to guess a major plot point about 70% through the book. That said, I didn't guess the whole ending which had some surprising elements. I also enjoyed how the book looked at the idea of justice and when we feel hopeless, especially with the justice system. I thought it was an interesting side plot and appreciated the commentary. I had a lot of fun reading this book and just had to know what would happen next. I'm looking very forward to reading the next book in the series! I'll always be excited to read more about Pip! I really enjoyed this book! But the first book is definitely my favourite of the two. I gave this book 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's a wrap on my review for Good Girl, Bad Blood! I hope you enjoyed it!
