Hello bookworms! Today I'm excited to be sharing another review with you guys, at that is for Catalyst by Willow Anderson! I'd first like to thank Willow who gave me my copy in exchange for an honest review!
Catalyst is the second book in the Pandemonium series! As it is a sequel there will be some spoilers for the first book in the synopsis, so be warned! (The review itself is spoiler free though!) After Pandemonium's chaos was fractured Lace and the true Ringmaster set out to find the other card holding it. Their travels bring them to the kingdom of Dryston, that is ruled by the sister of the man who took so much from Lace. They hope to enter and exit quickly, unfortunately it seems that the princess has more dangerous plans. Those being another twisted competition with more lives on the line. To win your life, are you willing to risk your heart? I read Pandemonium as part of a blog tour a few months ago and I really enjoyed it! I was excited to learn more about the characters and the adventures they would go on. Like before, the setting was something that was a lot of fun to read about! The magic and whimsical aspect of the show came back in full force which I was very happy to see. In terms of writing, Catalyst is definitely a lot darker than Pandemonium, which I thought gave a perfect opportunity to see the more dramatic sides of the show. It also added another element of urgency and drama to the plot and trials in the competition. Aside from seeing development in Lace, we also saw it in many of the side characters I loved from the first book! There was moments where I was smiling with happiness but others where I felt really sad for the characters and empathized with their situations. The romance was also well done, the two love interests definitely kept Lace on her toes and we constantly wonder what will happen. To be honest I can't even pick who I like more! 😂One thing I would have liked more of was some breaks from the action in order to get quality time with the characters. I also would have liked to further connect with the past of some characters and to better understand their motivations. Another aspect I enjoyed was that I could never figure out what the plot twists would be! I have to say that the way this book ended has left me hanging! I can't wait to see what will happen next, I feel that the possibilities are endless! For anyone looking for a dark and whimsical read, Catalyst is the book for you! I gave this book a 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's all for my review of Catalyst by Willow Anderson! I hope you enjoyed it! What's your favourite carnival fair themed snack?
