But one night her loved ones are threatened and she unleashes a power she didn't know she had. Ekon, a decorated hero wishes more than anything to become a Son of the Six. Everything is going to plan until his last rite of passage goes awry and all of his dreams are dashed. When Ekon and Koffi realize that they can save both of their dreams by hunting down the Shetani, a murderous monster in the jungle, the two team up to take the monster down.
I had a lot of fun reading Beasts of Prey! What I loved most was the world building. The city of Lkossa had such rich history and folklore that it felt like a real place. The interweaving of mythology into the creatures of the jungle made for a really interesting read. All of the creatures felt very unique and I had a lot of fun imagining them and what they looked like. The writing style added this ambiance of a mystical adventure which definitely propelled me through the book. It also helped me visualize the setting and the city. I have a clear image in my mind of what the city looks like and I can't wait to learn more about it. My favourite character would have to be Ekon. I related to him the most and I thought that his OCD and anxiety was written very well. While Ekon and Koffi have similar goals, they couldn't be more different. The dual perspective was very distinctive and you could see each of the characters come to life. I was invested in the romance right from the get go. We have this really cute dynamic of a rule breaker with a strict rule follower. It was intriguing to see what they brought out in each other. The plot was very unique and is what drew me into this book initially. At times it did become a bit slow but otherwise it was engaging. I didn't see any of the plot twists coming but some of them weren't super shocking. That said there was lot of action especially towards the end. I'll definitely be picking up the next book in the series! Filled with interesting creatures, dynamic characters and a beautiful setting. I gave this book 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. That's a wrap on my review of Beasts of Prey by Ayana Gray. I hope you enjoyed it! What is your favourite jungle animal? Let me know in the comments below!

Death, animal death, drug use, sexual assault (not on page), PTSD, anxiety, stalking, blood, murder, gore, violence, kidnapping, drugging A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is definitely one of my top ten reads of 2021 so far. So I was super excited to see how this trilogy ended. What I loved most about the previous two books was the characters and the thrilling plot twists. I have to say that As Good As Dead really ventures away from the tone and mood of the first books in the series. It got a lot more darker and a lot more creepy, that said I'd definitely check out the content warnings I've put together above to make sure this book is right for you. I love mysteries and thrillers, they're one of my favourite genres to read and many of them have dark themes and content. Unfortunately this book made me really uncomfortable at times and became quite disturbing as time went on. The writing was descriptive and conveyed Pip's emotions really well. It immersed me in the story right from the first chapter. Pip quickly became one of my favourite characters ever after reading A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. I related to her so much and admired her. I also loved Ravi! However in As Good As Dead I felt that both Pip and Ravi acted very strangely and completely out of character. It was sort of disheartening to see how much they veered away from the characters I grew to love so much. This book is also packed with plot twists coming at every turn. I have to say that I didn't see them coming and they were very surprising. The ending left me unsatisfied but I can understand why the author chose it. Ultimately this book was a filled with many plot twists but was very different from the previous books before it. I gave this book 3/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️. Mood Board Author Information
